Richard Mishaan, one of New York's leading interior designers, is a renaissance man with an impressive career that has spanned many of the creative arts including architecture / interior design, fashion, and furniture design. A master at presenting arresting personalized décor for his high profile clients, the designer is renowned for his artistic ability to blend collectibles and antiques with art and furnishings. Richard's clients include High profile CEOs, international luxury hotel chains and prestigious clientele in the fashion, entertainment, and real estate industries.
In 1998 Richard curatorally assembled a collection of treasures he had already been hunting down both for himself and his clients and opened a gallery/ retail space on Madison Avenue. He named the shop Homer after the American painter Winslow Homer which came to be known as an important design resource to the world's finest designers.
His signature look, and the private homes and designer show houses he has created, are often featured in the nation's premiere home furnishing magazines including House Beautiful (on the House Beautiful 100 top designers list), Town & Country, New York Magazine (on the New York Magazine's 100 top designers list), Elle Décor, Interior Design, The New York Times, and Metropolitan Home. Richard was a design correspondent on the Jane Pauley show and has also appeared on several other national TV shows to include, Joan Rivers, John Walsh and The NBC i-Village morning show where he completed several makeovers.
Mishaan's work has been featured four times in the influential Kips Bay Decorator Show House, at the Hampton's Show House, the French Designer's Show House, Florida International Arts & Antiqued Show, and in July will represent Town and Country in their Design Visions Show House.
Richard Mishaan also designs a collection of furniture under his own name as well as for Qu Mei the second largest furniture retailer in China. Richard has designed lighting for The Urban Electric Lighting Company and in the next year will introduce lines in several categories to include Fabrics, Rugs and Furniture for a major American furniture company soon to be announced.
Born in Colombia, Richard Mishaan began his career by apprenticing in the offices of Philip Johnson after receiving a B.A. from New York University and attending Columbia Graduate School of Architecture. In the ensuing years, he opened a successful design firm, completing assignments for private individuals and corporations including collaborations with Sony Corporation, the Trump Organization, The St. Regis Hotel Chain and several private clients.
The designer adds author to this roster of credits having written his first book titled, "Modern Luxury" on interior style and design released in May by The Monacelli Press at Random House.
